Tourism Critic MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert Visits LinkBC for Dialogue with Students

Back To News September 14th, 2012

On Tuesday Sept 11th MLA and official opposition critic for tourism Spencer Chandra Herbert visited LinkBC at host institution Capilano University.

The informal visit was an opportunity for the critic to learn more about tourism and hospitality education across the province. It also afforded him the chance to learn more about LinkBC's role in connecting students to the industry, promoting all programs, and sharing knowledge with stakeholders.

The first part of the session included a welcome to host institution Capilano University and an overview of the LinkBC network provided by staff Terry Hood and Morgan Westcott. This was followed by a session with five students from tourism management programs and MLA Chandra Herbert. During this dialogue the students shared their backgrounds, area of study, why they chose tourism and CapU, and what they see as the most significant issue and opportunity for BC tourism today.

Chris Bottrill, Dean of the Faculty of Global and Community Studies, noted how impressed he was with the insight and talent of students demonstrated in the discussion:

"The students you met today are a small sample of what's happening around BC. Every institution in the network is working towards these same goals, and LinkBC is working to provide pathways for students, learning opportunities, and growing our collective knowledge."
