Back To News September 3rd, 2012
Royal Roads University vice-president of Global Advancement, Marketing and Business Development Cyndi McLeod has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to the Beijing Language and Culture University.
The scholarship for the university's Chinese Language Program within the College of Advanced Chinese Training is awarded on a very limited basis to leading international faculty and staff by the Chinese government.
McLeod is a well-respected expert in the field of international education who has worked with LinkBC partners including Selkirk College and Thompson Rivers University, positioning both institutions as magnets for bright students from around the world. Now working at RRU, McLeod continues to be recognized for her outstanding accomplishments.
"The award Cyndi has received is a first for RRU and reflects a very unique and prestigious honour that is highly regarded by the Chinese government and strongly supported by our local Chinese consulate general," said Dr. Allan Cahoon, president and vice-chancellor of Royal Roads University.
Beijing Language and Culture University has an international reputation for offering outstanding Chinese as a second language programs. As a scholar student, McLeod will focus on learning more about Chinese language and culture for two months this fall.
"I thank the Chinese government for this incredible opportunity to enhance my Mandarin language skills and to continue my quest to understand more about the ever-changing dynamics of the Chinese economy and culture."
McLeod's career spans 26 years of achievement in BC post-secondary education. She has worked in China for 15 years and has collaborated with Chinese institutions to establish joint ventures and training programs. She joined Royal Roads in 2009 and was instrumental in developing a partnership with Study Group, an internationally renowned education marketing and recruitment company.
Last year, McLeod's successful marketing of BC's education system was recognized with the British Columbia Council for International Education Innovation in International Marketing Award.
LinkBC congratulates Cyndi on her accomplishment!
