Camosun Hospitality Student Receives Provincial and National Recognition
Back To News April 17th, 2012
Recent Camosun College Hotel & Restaurant Management program graduate Erica Parsons received honourable mentions from the Provincial Association of Co-operative Education, and from the Canadian Association for Cooperative Education (CAFCE) at a recent Recognition Ceremony.
The awards were announced during national Co-operative education week which concluded March 23rd,2012.
Miss Parsons, who worked for the Walt Disney Corporation on her Co-op work term, was nominated from this year's pool of over 80,000 students studying at 78 CAFCE membership institutions across Canada and was one of only 2 College students recognized. Erica was the only business student to receive recognition.
Working with The Walt Disney Company was a "life-changing experience" for Parsons. Her time was "extremely jam packed" between taking classes through the Disney College program, the University of California Riverside and Harvard, and working 50- 60 hours a week as a concierge at Animal Kingdom, an African themed Disney park set within a wildlife reserve and focused on nature and education.
"Erica always has a positive attitude and is a real team player who stands out from her peers," says Erica's supervisor Kelly Ann Beach. "She embraced the Disney heritage and projected it in her work, sharing her passion for her job and the company with her guests and peers."
Parson's approach led to numerous guest compliments that did not go unnoticed by the company. Her efforts paid off when she was promoted to a position in the concierge lounge, a VIP area.
